Orell Füssli - Another record year for Orell Füssli
Press Release about thte provisional annual results for 2007
Higher sales and profits – Strong international banknote business – Gains in book retailing and publishing in Switzerland – Confident outlook for 2008.
Orell Füssli posted a 7.4% increase in sales to CHF 378.6 million in the 2007 financial year, thus surpassing the previous year’s record figure. Operating earnings (EBIT) rose by 8.2% to CHF 42.4 million. Net profit increased by 9.5% to CHF 30.0 million. All three business units contributed to these pleasing annual results.
The internationally focused Security Printing and Industrial Systems business unit reported an 8% increase in sales in 2007 with maintained profit margins, accounting for 56% of total sales
revenues and making a disproportionately large contribution to EBIT at the Orell Füssli Group.
The Orell Füssli Security Printing Division profitably expanded the banknote business and its capacity is fully utilized until the end of 2008. The extensive capital spending and structural
alteration projects at the Zurich Wiedikon site are being implemented according to plan. The Atlantic Zeiser Division made striking progress in the second half to achieve a final outcome at
much the same level as the previous year.
Book retailing in Switzerland advanced considerably in 2007, although the Christmas trade contributed little to growth. The Orell Füssli bookshops reported a 5% increase in sales and
profit margins also continued to improve.
The Publishing business unit continued to consolidate its position in Switzerland. The Orell Füssli Publishing Division recorded a substantial increase in sales. Profit margins at the Orell
Füssli Business Information Division continued to improve while the trend of business remained stable.
In the 2008 financial year Orell Füssli expects growth to continue and earnings to remain stable against the backdrop of a high level of orders in hand at Security Printing.
